getting started

is there a place I can look at some simple source examples to get started? unclear about proper usage of SegmentedTimeLine, etc.
There are lots of demos in the src/org/jfree/chart/demo directory of the JFreeChart distribution.
I don't know if anyone is completely clear about the proper usage of SegmentedTimeLine...some days I think I understand it, other days I'm not so sure!
