JFreeChart at JavaOne 2009

Post by david.gilbert » Tue Apr 07, 2009 2:27 pm

I'll be holding a Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) session at JavaOne this year. It is my first visit to JavaOne, and will be a great opportunity to meet up with developers that use JFreeChart and talk about requirements, future plans, lucrative job offers etc. I am always really interested to find out how people are using JFreeChart "in the wild", so if you are able to make it to JavaOne please stop by:

http://java.sun.com/javaone/index.jsp

The session I'll be holding is "BOF-4905 JFreeChart: Surviving and Thriving". When I know the day and time, I'll post it here.

Since the JavaOne site does not make this information incredibly obvious:

Rich Media Applications and Interactive Content • Core Technology: Java SE and Java Technology for the Desktop • Cool Stuff | Introductory

This session, led by Dave Gilbert, the author and maintainer of
the popular JFreeChart open-source chart library for the Java™
platform, brings together all interested parties to look at where
JFreeChart is going and what can be done to better serve its
users. It also discusses how to keep a free software project alive
through a recession.
Can you attend a BOF session(s) without paying to attend the entire event?

Hi Richard,

I don't think that is possible in general. But I'm going to ask around and see if it would be possible for you to attend the session, because I think that would be excellent given how much time and energy you have contributed to this project. Another alternative would be to arrange an informal JFreeChart gathering somewhere in San Francisco where there is good beer.

Best regards,
Dave

Hi David,
My colleague and I are interested in meeting briefly to say "Hi" and discuss how we have been using JFreeChart. Is there a time and place that would work for you? We will be attending JavaOne but with a limited pass that doesn't permit us access to BOF.

Kind regards,
Simon

Meeting up would be great. I'm around all week, staying at the Orchard Hotel in Bush St (not far from Union Square). My mobile number is +447800846889. I've never been to the Moscone Center before, so I can't suggest anywhere to meet yet...but give me a call or an e-mail (dave@jfree.org) and we'll arrange something.
